Normally, I assiduously work at not having to watch commercials, but sometimes, they slip in. I saw one recently that started, "What if you could be you..." but that was enough. Come on, people! What has the commercial industry got that can possible give you permission to be you? Nothing. In fact, you don't even need permission to be you. You just need a little courage and a little strength.
Life is not the on the outside, nothing you can buy, eat, or wear will ever give you the permission to be Who You Really Are that all the commercials promise. There is no perfect man or woman who can make it possible. There is no job great enough. There is no friend kind enough. Life is not on the outside. Being you is all about coming from who you are from deep within.
Here are some simple tools to celebrate being you:
- Go out everyday and do something that fills you with joy. Then you will feel who you are and by making joy a habit you will be being you.
- Sit in silence at least once a day.
- Play with children and animals once in a while.
- Love with abandon.
There isn't a marketer in the world that can truly promise you the ability or the right to be you. The only permission you need is your own. Step up to the plate and own this one and step out of the control of consumerism.
Blessings.
