Change is a constant process. There is no single promise, no single recipe, no single certain clear path to change and yet change is within all of them. It's just that there isn't one answer. What makes sense today, might be clouded tomorrow by the events.
The real problem with change is that we engage to reach a specific and clearly-defined destination and in human spirit there is no such thing. Change is simply constant and by reaching for a finite conclusion, we are robbing ourselves of essential success.
What we need are not finite goals and pictures of where we want to be, but conditions. Instead of "I will be happy when I am like this [X]" maybe it would be more like this: "I will do one thing everyday that makes my heart soar with joy." Maybe instead of "I will lose 50 pounds and be happy," it would be more like this: "Everyday I will take time to get present with food and eating."
Change in today's world is all about that same instant gratification so over-lauded in our marketing and sales pitches. But change, like life, isn't a destination, it's a path and the sooner we recognize that, the more strengthened we are to change our world. There is such a false ring to the "I will be happy when..." goal-setting change idealism. And there is such richness in recognizing that change is as much a part of us as our very breath.
Blessings.
