Layer Upon Layer

The healing process, like all things in life, is a process that is made up of layers. You deal with one particular issue and you think you're done with it all, but really, it has cleared the way to show you that something else also needs to be dealt with. And this process can go on quite a while until you have reached the source of the problem.

The good news is that generally if you have gone this path, the healing process is likely to be longer lasting. The bad news is that in today's day in age, in our societies built on mega-instant gratification, we rarely go this avenue. More often than not, we want the quick fix, and in doing so, we deal with a symptom. Because we have not reached the real substance of the issue, it is unlikely that that particular symptom will be eradicated and other symptoms will pop up.

The healing process is an important path of getting to the source. You can get an addict to stop, but like one of my favorite shows says, "X is not the problem, it's a symptom.) All that ails us, on whatever level it ails us, is just the overlying symptoms of the issues underneath. Whether those issues are on the physical level, emotional level, mental level or spiritual level is not so important as the fact that they need to be addressed, they are crying out to be addressed, and through the symptoms they are, in their own way, demanding to be addressed.

Layer upon layer, life gives us hints, in the way of symptoms, which can often go completely undetected. But at some point, they will scream loud - a headache, an earache, an illness, and so on.

These layers are kind of like life's gifts to us - to give us the opportunity to find equilibrium, joy, happiness and health in life. It's up to us to peel them back to get to that very source.

Blessings.
