The Stories We Tell

Oh we have to watch those stories we tell! Otherwise they trap us like a jail cell we can never break out of. Like that woman who always thought she didn't belong and kept moving and moving, searching for the place to belong. One day she goes back and realized she belonged all along, it was just that she never felt comfortable in her own skin. That was a waste of a lot of years.

The problem with the stories we tell is that they begin to mold us and then our life unfolds around the mold. Then all of a sudden we're stuck like a mandarin in a bowl of jelly. Nothing forms around us like we wanted it to, and we're just stuck in the middle jiggling.

If you say things like, "Awww, things never work out for me," how can you ever expect that things will or can work out? If you say things like, "Nobody loves me," how can anyone ever love you?

These stories are the ones we tell over and over again, and it's time to look at ourselves, like we would a good friend who keeps repeating him/herself, and say, "I've already heard that one, it's time for a different story." Right? And isn't it super easy to hear that when others do it? Time to listen more closely to ourselves. Time to hear the stories we're telling and decide if we want to live out the rest of our lives with these stories or decide to change them.

Blessings.
