The Lure of the Future

Do we have to be situated differently in order to live better or more intensely? This is the lure of the future - we want to believe that if things were just a bit different, if this was that way or that was the other, then we would live the full life we'd like to live...

You have to ask yourself - - And what would that be? What would the life you'd like to live be? What would it look like? What would it feel like? And then - what's stopping you from living that now?

The lure of the future really is just a lure, like a trap, perpetually egging you on to believe that what's next or what's different is infinitely better than what is. And it never ends because once one thing changes, the next is already looming there luring you yet again.

Life is a process of perpetual change, but the challenge within that perpetual change is to recognize that the present is the moment to be and live at your most, best, most intense. The only thing stopping you from living your very fullest and biggest life is yourself.

If you have the feeling that you are not living your fullest and biggest life, it's not the next job, the next vacation, the next boy/girlfriend, the next car, the next house, the next paycheck, the next child, the next day that is going to make things better. The lure of the future is a lie. The only thing that will make your life that way is you taking the reigns and living big and fully.

Here's the easy test: If you feel like the next [SOMETHING] will make your life better, you're not living today to the fullest.

We live in such a confused society because the media is constantly telling us that more, next, tomorrow is good and that's what we should be reaching for. And sure, if you want a different house, a different job, a different life, that's a lifestyle question. But if you feel discontent with what you have and think that something else will make that discontent go away, that's where the lure of the future is lying to you and you have to choose whether to accept the lie or to change how you are living in the present.

Blessings.
