The zone of comfort is perhaps the biggest source of unease and atrophy in our lives. Because it's ... comfortable. And because it's comfortable, it's super easy for us to think that it's "right," i.e. the right place to be, the right thing to do, the right everything.
But sometimes, that very comfort should really be ringing loud alarm bells because it can end up that we are seeking comfort in the sad illusion that it will protect us from pain (i.e. the pain of changing) or death. Comfort often shields us from the harsh reality that we all come and go in this life, and it shields us from the discomfort of having to question whether we have done everything with our lives that we possibly could.
Life is a river of perpetual change. When the comfort zone reaches the place that you no longer feel change as a natural and constant part of your life, then your comfort zone has overstepped its boundaries. When the comfort zone prompts and goads you into making decisions that are based on "it's easier to be where I am than to change" it has overstepped its boundaries. When the comfort zone makes you believe that you need to endure any kind of pain (i.e. emotional) in order to stay where you are, it has overstepped its boundaries.
All the comfort zone really tells us is that we have stopped challenging ourselves in some way. It is a huge red alert in business, in love, and in life saying - yo, look out, do you really want to stay HERE?!! And then it's up to you to decide.
Blessings.
