Every now and then it can be a super useful exercise to go through and question your every thought and statement. Whatever your thoughts are assuming, whatever assumptions have found their way into semi-permanence in your heart, mind and life, the simple question, "Is this true?" can illuminate some of the deeper patterns in your life and bring them out of hiding.
How many times do you say, "I'm ok, or I'm fine," when someone asks how you are? How many times do you describe the external aches and pains of life but forget about the internal ones? How easy is it to say that your friends have abandoned you, when you have closed yourself off from them.
This occasional questioning is the perfect opportunity to really question these assumptions and get to the root of them. Instead of just saying, "Yes, of course I'm right," you get the chance to question it...what if it wasn't right, what would be true instead?
It is not that we are bad by nature or deliberate deceivers, it is a habit we fall into of protecting ourselves - and occasionally it is not only good but also healthy to challenge the assumptions we have come to know, to see if there is a different truth if we scratch the surface. by losing the protective wall, we cave in to the vulnerability of our hearts, and there is a goldmine of truth. "No, I'm not really fine, I'm struggling," or "I've stepped back further and further from my circle of friends and don't know how to reconnect," etc.
The door to change lies in the truths we are willing to have a look at.
Blessings.
