The Ripples and Tidal Waves of Change

I should go to bed, but I am moved by the amazing change that is created by the power of people coming together. Music has always been a powerful medium for this - if you look back over time, music has often played a role in the the expression of passion that moves people to action. Just look at the love generation on Haight St; only think of Live Aid, Farm Aid, No Nukes, the Hope for Haiti and so many others. Remember the names of the people who sang not for money (well, that too) but primarily because they needed to give a voice to the people and whose undying passion it has ever been to do so.

There is magic in this coming together, change manifests. Awareness is bred into the lives of those who don't know, and liberation into the lives of those who do. A path is carved that so many can walk upon and that is a power to be reckoned with. Because any time you give a voice to the people, change happens in tidal waves.

You watch something like that and for one suspended moment in time, you recognize that nothing is of more value than letting go of yourself to take care of the things that need to be taken care of in the world. Simple solutions can actually solve problems - people coming together can change the world because they have let go of the need for personal gain and are united in the effort of taking constructive, positive action.

Ours is a society today that has forgotten that is it the work of many people together that creates roads and villages and cities and industries. We have forgotten that if we all bring one thing to the stone soup it will serve an entire community and save them from hunger. We have forgotten that the solution to the problems does not lie outside of ourselves, but rather within. And we have forgotten that together, with everyone doing one little thing, giving one little bit, a lot happens.

It is sad that it takes devastation of epic proportions to remind us, but at least we are reminded, that we hold the key in our own hands to creating the ripples and the tidal waves of change.

- Blessings.
