What kind of image do you get when you think of tumbleweeds? They have this weird kind of quirky image in history, songs written about them, western movie images, etc. Maybe that's because they are so...quirky. In monsoon season in NM, and also when it's just plain windy, it is the most amazing thing to watch the tumbleweeds dance. That must be where they got their romance because they do, literally, dance.
We humans tend to take life so differently. When things get rough we get tough, when the wind blows, we brace ourselves, we fight, we struggle, we stand up to it. What if we just danced? What if, when the wind blew, we just put our arms up and danced around in it? What if we rolled down the road when the wind blew us that way?
The thing about tumbleweeds is that they really rock and roll with life. They have shallow roots and don't dig in too deeply anywhere, and they roam, ride, roll and dance at any opportunity. It's almost as if they were born to do that. But weren't we also?
So maybe we can't just roll away like tumbleweeds, we have lives to live, families to feed, things to do and places to go, but certainly tumbleweeds offer us a lesson in remembering to dance with life. Just watch the tumbleweeds and take heed. If it's windy, enjoy the wind, if it's raining, savor it, if it's sunny, appreciate it. Instead of bracing ourselves against it, or fighting or struggling so much - just flowing with life.
Blessings from windy NM!
