Musings From an Eventful Week

It has been an incredibly eventful 8 days, involving 1600 miles of travel by car, living in close quarters with most of my nuclear family for 7 days, an all day work meeting and lots of pottering around running errands and the like. From that...some musings.

1. You belittle and disempower yourself when you shake blame on to others, rather than face up to your own responsibility and recognizing that how you respond is entirely up to you. It is equally as painful for others to witness this as it is for you to live in this space.

2. Guilt and worry are man-made tools for control. On the one hand, guilt was created as an emotional weapon of control over others. Just think about it, when you feel guilty about something, you are most likely more inclined to let someone else get their way about something. And on the other hand, worry is like self-inflicted guilt. You think things must be a certain way and then you get yourself in a big tizzy if they aren't, and all the while tizzy or no tizzy, nothing is changed by the worrying.

3. Gratitude is the answer to many, many things in life. Forget trying to 'solve' everything, forget thinking it through till you have a massive headache, forget trying to force things into existence, and remember gratitude. Write down 100 things you are grateful for everyday for 40 days and it will change your thinking. Breathe in "Thank you" and breathe out "Thank you" for 3 minutes twice a day and it will change your thinking. Change your thinking, change your world.

4. Silence is a sacred thing. Offer your body peace and quiet everyday, and quiet your mind with meditation. You deserve that incredible beauty in your life.

5. The greatest gift you can give anyone (yourself included) is full responsibility for their lives. You can feel sorry for them if you want, you can offer help if you want, but nothing is bigger, greater or kinder than recognizing that we each carry full responsibility for our life and there is no excuse. Circumstances may be whatever they may be, but ours, and ours alone is the choice of how we respond.

Blessings and love.
