Gifts In the Darkness

Do you ever have that feeling when the electricity goes out that you should just - well - be in darkness for a while? Sometimes, despite every effort, we are faced with darkness within ourselves and then - what to do about it? Maybe the only thing to do is to be in that darkness for a while. Breathe deep, feel it, sit with it. And let it go.

In the event of a black out we can get panicky, freak out. We have so much light around us all the time, it's hard to imagine that the darkness can even be good. In the event of darkness in our lives, it's the same thing. There is so much that happens all the time, that it's almost as if we can't believe that there is something blessed, something good in the darkness we feel.

Darkness isn't always a bad thing. More often it is something that needs to come out into the open so it can be released. Often the pain we harbor from back as far as the womb and the days and months after birth can remain with us. If we're too frightened to sit with it, see it, then we can never really let it go, it just gets stuffed back, deeper and deeper with many new layers to cover it. Things get pretty muddled, conflicted and cluttered in there, it's no wonder it can get to be so dark. With all that clutter - how can the light shine through?

In the darkness there is a gift. Life presents us with these little glimpses of darkness so that we can learn to de-clutter inside and let the Light in.And that's a blessing.

Blessings.
