Self-Abuse

"Why you suffer?" - Gurudev

A friend and I were hashing out today the subject of self-abuse. It seems as if every single time we emote our negative reaction to a situation not meeting our expectations, we are causing ourselves pain, we are caught in the act of self-abuse.

What does that mean exactly? In any given moment if you are not celebrating the perfect beauty and absolute perfection of the moment, you are causing yourself pain. Wishing something to be different, wanting things to be different - causes self-pain.

"I don't want my arm to hurt."
"I am freaking out because I'm late."
"That guy is driving like a complete idiot."
"My co-worker totally screwed me over."
It's too dark, too, cold, I have to cook, I'm tired, I'm bored...

Instead of the question, "What if everything were already perfect?" What if we were to ask ourselves, "What if I just recognize that everything IS already perfect as it is?"

The difference between the two is the difference between suffering and pain, and happiness and health. How many of us are truly happy and healthy? And how very many of us are suffering and in pain? "Why you suffer?" here's why. Some food for thought.

Blessings.
