If you want to be safe
from pain
close yourself to love completely
and no pain
will ever touch you

If you want to feel the depth
of love
love that supersedes any feeling
you've ever had before
open yourself to the possibility
of pain
and soar in love completely

If you have ever lain alone, alone
the black night
your only lonely friend
know you are closed and
protecting yourself
from pain

If you have lain and known oneness
even if you alone could feel it
you have known love
and you have known
that you could not have felt it
if you were
safe from pain
