Mistakes

It is said that the only failure is not to try again, to give up and it must be true. And yet so often our mistakes are the source of mortification, humiliation and even self-loathing, when they are just...mistakes.

It comes back to this idea of perfection that we have - often unconscious, as often undefined - and yet this picture of perfection serves as the target and when we don't hit it on dead center, we suffer, that same said mortification, humiliation and even self-loathing.

The universe is too vast for us to really believe we can control it all, or any of it at all. Being stuck on principles of how perfect we should be is to initiate lives of perpetual suffering. Sound familiar?

Let it go, that picture, elusive and unreachable, of perfection beyond human reach. God would not have it so, be assured, or it would be so already. Let go of this crazy idea that you can't make a mistake, that you aren't perfect exactly the way you are, that you must suffer in life.

Let it go and breathe freely. Pick yourself up and give yourself a hug when you fall. Laugh when things don't go the way you want. Find a way to be grateful when you start being angry or scold. Stop beating yourself up because something didn't go the way you imagined and step into real life where things happen exactly the way they are supposed to. Stop beating yourself up long enough to recognise that this, truly, is perfection, in all it's stumbling, unclear, unsure paths, mishaps, and amazing glimpses of beauty.

Blessings.
