Charting Your Vision

A really important step in shaping your consciousness to attract things into your life, if to chart your vision. There are many techniques, but a popular one is vision boarding. It's quite simple.

1. Gather some friends around for an afternoon or an evening.

2. Have these materials on hand: poster board, scissors, glue sticks, lots of magazines, some good music in the background and some food for when everyone gets hungry.

3. Build a vision board by perusing all the magazines, snipping out images or words that stand out to you, things that tug at your heart, or represent things that make you feel good. Once you've snipped a pile of them, arrange them in collage fashion on the poster board and glue them down.

Voila you have a vision board. But you have so much more. If you're sitting around with friends, you'll find that everyone is different. One person is into artistic pictures, the next is into homey pictures, another is into words, and yet another into something else. All these expressions are good, even though we tend to put ourselves down. At our vision party we chatted and laughed about the things we were drawn to, we had search parties looking for elusive images, we had great soups and breads, and we each had our own way of looking at things.

One person's was homey, she had pictures of dinner tables, and food, mothers and kids, boots and lots of beautiful scenes. One man had was the only person to create his tall rather than wide. His was very organized, almost compartmentalized, and the pictures were vivid, colorful, passionate, and clear. One woman had so much trouble trying to find any images, that she began to seek things that would give her some clarity about what her vision was for the next year or two. One woman had so much stuff that she ended up creating six boards. I had a hard time fitting images in because I had found so many words that spoke to me!

The funny thing was that we all tended to want to start to speak disparaging of our visions - but there was something special about each one. The process of visioning shows you distinctly who you are and there is something incredible valuable in that knowledge. If you create six vision boards in a sitting, that tells you that you are a person of vast vision. Each person's vision board will express who they really are and what they are seeking in life, and there is a great deal to learn from sharing the process with others.

If you're up for de-cluttering, gather around your magazines and call up some friends for an evening of charting your vision. Besides the fun and the revealing nature of the exercise, you also end up with a pretty clear picture of what you are reaching for. By focusing on it, checking out your vision board regularly, you are creating a space in the universe for that reality - - you are making it happen.
