Expect Something Different

I had such a blast writing about dukes yesterday! Someone wrote of my blog: "unfortunately the world has too few of the souls out there who have grace, dignity and a love for truth." And that is a very interesting observation. I am inclined to agree with it, but perhaps it is the essential optimist in me that responds: and yet - we create our reality.

The beauty of life is that we do most assuredly create what we expect. My personal feeling is that our expectations of ourselves and our fellow world citizens are sadly lacking. If every single person expected (imperiously, if you so will!) that grace, dignity and love of truth were irrepressible parts of every person, that expectation would be fulfilled!

There are already so many expectations out there in existence - but they seem really ridiculous compared to honor, dignity, grace, doing the right thing. Women in particular have been subjected to the most outrageous whims - only think of chastity belts, waists the size of bagels, or the perpetual need to look like a 15 year old! But the point is - people bend themselves to what is expected.

So expect something different. Expect that every person you encounter will act with dignity, will do the right thing, will be graceful and honorable and truthful. Expect it and don't back down from that expectation. Ever.

We make ourselves powerless by believing that everything is out of our hands. We think industry controls us; we forget that it is our choices that are the final word. We think that the government has control over us; we forget that they are our paid servants. We think that people simply aren't graceful, dignified, or truthful; we forget that it is our expectation that blossoms such things into existence. Like the ripple effect, the more who expect it, the more widespread it becomes.

Start today. Expect something different.

Blessings
