The Only Decision

Though I have yet to find a reference for the quote, it is said that Albert Einstein once said that the only decision you have to make in your life is to decide whether or not God loves you. It is a particularly endearing statement, because it calls from the depths of our beings our very own personal responsibility for believing in all forms of goodness. Or not.

It is the inverse paranoid theory once again. It is the choice to believe that people are out to do you good, rather than to do you harm, that God loves you infinitely, rather than has any desire to punish you.

Life is an unending journey of deep and intimate lessons of the soul. Did we choose fear in this instant, or love? Did we choose karma in that response, or destiny? Every moment is a gift for a deep and unrelenting understanding of the process of choosing love over fear, destiny over karma, and the rich rewards it reaps.

There is plenty of reason to feel fear, but how much more reason is there to feel love. There is plenty of reason to fear evil, and so much more reason to celebrate goodness. There is plenty of reason to think that perhaps God mimics amazingly human emotions, and so much more reason to believe we are, indeed, held preciously and loved deeply by the Infinite.

A friend asked me tonight where I turn to when fear pops up, and this is my answer. I turn to the goodness that comes when I choose to believe that God loves me, that even this fear in this moment has something infinitely valuable and beautiful to behold if only I will take the time to look at it and see it for what it is.

Blessings.
