It can be pretty easy to get so lost in the day to day chorelist that we forget that happiness is a birthright, that joy is an essential element in human life which we need to feel and experience regularly. What with the job, the family (or lack thereof), the worries, the bills, the schedules to meet... what's fun? what's happy about it?
But happiness is our birthright and that means that in the midst of all that happens, we have not only the right to be happy but the responsibility, too. We have the right to arrange our lives in such a fashion that there is not only time, but also opportunity to express happiness, through the experience of expressing our passion.
We should never forget our dreams and our passions, they should be a mandatory part of life; and I think we mostly start out that way, it's just that when we're younger there seems to be so much more opportunity for it; and when life gets more settled it seems almost like a chore. Still - it is a worthwhile chore because it re-ignites the heart chakra, produces energy and lends a bit of excitement.
We can't take happiness for granted, because otherwise days and months and years go by, and when we look back it is nothing but a drab, trudging epic through the mud. Life is too beautiful to miss the sunsets and the sunrises, the peaks and the seas, the laughter of children, the movies that move us, the hug of a friend, and the kiss that opens our spirit.
Taking care of our happiness deserves a ranking at least as high as taking care of our physical needs. What good is it having food and water, but no love? What good is it having shelter and fire, with no laughter?
Take time today to make your happiness a priority.
Blessings.
