A friend said to me this evening that he was feeling hopeless - what with everything going on, finances a mess, work situation gregarious, gas prices crazy and staying that way, pretty much everything just made him feel hopeless.
My own, very personal opinion of hopelessness is that Consumer Sales Experts, the Government and pretty much anyone into monetary gain over integrity, WANT to cultivate a culture of hopelessness.
Hopelessness has got to be one of the most painful things a human can feel. You feel futile, like no matter what you do it won't work; you feel empty and uninspired without hope, how can you do ANYthing? Basically you just want to numb it and that's when the money moguls step in. If you drink this beer - you won't hurt! If you buy this truck - you won't feel powerless! If you buy this food - you'll be happy! If you buy this dish soap - you'll attract "the one." If it hurts enough - you might be willing to try anything to alleviate that pain and there's money in that. Or at least, that's the motto.
Hopelessness is defined as when a moment or event breaks ones spirit or ones ability to function . Our spirits are broken and all our government can do is endorse spending money? Our ability to function is being seriously stepped upon and it's Big Business stepping up to the plate to "help" us?
The ability to function is the key word here. Hopelessness is the feeling of being bound, tied, as if there is nothing we can do. We feel like we can't function, but it is possible; even in the most hopeless of situations.
The truth is, there is nothing we can't do. We forget that our bold country (and I am speaking of the US here) is built upon the idea that there is nothing we cannot do. This is where dreams come true. This is where rags to riches stories can happen. This is where we are given permission to step outside the rigid boundaries of how someone else does things, do it our own way and win at it.
There is so very much we can do and nothing is remotely related to spending money or numbing pain. By stepping outside the strict confines of our thought processes, we can give ourselves a break. Something as simple as cultivating laughter opens the heart center, and when the heart center is open and flowing, hope, the perennial flower of our being, blossoms richly and beautifully.
Blessings.
