It's really far too easy to see things in such a negative light, that you end up trashing yourself. Maybe that thing you did 5 years ago wasn't a mistake, maybe it was the most perfect thing in the world because of what you know now. Maybe you didn't make bad choices, maybe those choices were the best choices in the world to bring you to a place of understanding.
By deeming them "mistakes" or "bad choices" you are making yourself out to be something wrong or bad. Are you really wrong or bad? If you have learned something, possibly the most valuable thing in your life right now, how can you be wrong or bad?
Seeing the gift in things is a precious, precious gift of presence, that be substituted. All the wealth in the world can't replace the beauty of this moment and the gifts it holds for you. No significant other, no better job, nothing that you don't have and get - all of it pales next to this incredible moment.
It takes practice to learn to see the gift in the now. You have to strip away "tomorrow" and you have to peel off "yesterday." You have to keep possibilities in their own space, and let the chatter die down in your mind. Then, if you breathe in very deeply, you can pull yourself back to the moment, to the feel of every cell as it is, right now, and you can rejoice in all of it, slowly letting that rejoicing reach outward to encircle the vibratory frequency of your life. Then, give thanks for the gifts that you find in the supreme perfection of the moment.
Is that easy? It's simple, not easy, but that's no reason to shy away from trying. Go for it!
Blessings.
