Let's Walk

He said, "Let's walk,"
And as she hesitated
memories of dogs and snakes
whirling in her mind
he smiled and said,
"Come. Walk with me.
I will protect you completely."
So they walked into the sandy
grasslit hills
sucking in the heat
the wheat
and the grace
until they reached the
peak of a small hill.

Breathless and exhilarated
she raised her arms
and lifted her face to the sky
then looked back at him.
When he saw her radiance
he said, "I see God in your eyes,"
and she knew
this was a man she could love.
