Choosing Life

Choosing life over death in life is to choose gratitude in each and every moment. It is the childlike wonder of an amazing formation of clouds, icicles, branches, water, bugs, petals, dew... It is the bubbling of spontaneous mirth without a visible source... It is the willingness to listen beyond words, to see what lies behind what another person says, to find compassion and send it back...

Gratitude is to absorb this moment as the most precious, most beautiful thing in all of life, and this moment, and this moment, and this moment...

Choosing life is to be in celebration in each moment; there is no time for resistance, there is no time for anger, there is no time for sulking or complaining or whining, there is no time for bitterness, resentment or blame. When you choose life, in this moment, there is no room and no time for anything but the moment.

Start today to practice gratitude. Breathe deeply and be grateful for the capacity of your lungs. Move with intent and be grateful for the miracle of your body. Hug the people you love and be grateful for the experience of an open heart. Find something wonderful to say about them and be grateful they are in your life. Experience your day in mindfulness and be grateful for the gifts you are given, the challenges that are also gifts, and the preciousness of each moment. Think for a moment before speaking and find something graceful, beautiful, and grateful to say first. Then consider whether the rest is necessary.

Gratitude is a thought process that starts with your willingness to discipline yourself. If you water your garden every day, your plants and flowers will grow. If you practice gratitude everyday, it will grow and grow and grow until in every moment you have chosen the affirmative, you have chosen life.

Each day, each moment this choice is ours. Choose well.

Blessings.
