Hearts don't really break. Dreams don't really die. Hopes don't really shatter. What shatters is our illusion. We have these picture perfect dreams of something, and then we get emotionally attached to them and when they don't work out, we're shattered??
No, no, these are pictures, they are images that we create in our mind's eye, they are how we daydream... we are in love and he is the perfect man, or she is the perfect woman, then all of a sudden real life kicks in and the lovely still image is shattered, like the still lake is shattered by the ripples from a rock thrown in.
It is so easy to create these images, these illusions; who wouldn't want the perfect relationship, the perfect job, the perfect family, the perfect life... But the image is an illusion. And it is only the illusion that can shatter. A love that is built on absolute presence won't shatter. You're not making something out of nothing, you are not imagining things, you're dealing with what is really happening, and you're in touch with it. It's not an image, it's an experience of real life.
And that's the difference. If you feel something shattering, it's time to look at the images you have been building and start comparing them with real life. Then you have to choose - the shattering experience of the illusion, or the experience of life as it really is, with all the risks of being hurt and being loved for who you really are, but, for all that, real life.
Life's not a storybook. Hearts don't really break, dreams don't really die and hope doesn't really shatter. Life is a kaleidescope of experiences which cover every range of feeling, and it holds a great deal of grace, beauty and even magic in that experience. It is only when we hold on to self-created images of illusion, that we are bound to split and shatter upon impact with reality.
Choose well.
Blessings.
