Consciousness and the Moment

Consciousness is an amazing tool to shift the conditions of a moment. Whatever is going on, taking a deep breath and becoming totally present is the first step to examing what is going on (usually, friction, see yesterday's blog!). Feel uncomfortable? Stressing? Sad? Angry? Frustrated? Consciousness is the tool for you.

I like to use the example of driving behind someone you would rather not be driving behind. Believe me, I have lots of experience with this! Let's say they are driving 20 mph in a 45 mph zone. Frustrating? You bet. What can you do about it? You can fume, you can yell, you can cast aspersions on the person's identity, you can bang your hand on the steering wheel - and what's happening about the situation? Absolutely nothing. How do you shift it without breaking 30 laws and making dangerous attempts to somehow get around?

Breathe in and examine what's going on. The friction called "resistance" always comes up when we are refusing to accept what is gong on now. Stop dogging the guy in front of you (who is probably oblivious to you anyway), remove your foot from the gas, slow down, try smiling, turn on a song you like, look around a little at the scenery - - in other words consciously divert your attention. By becoming consciously aware of what you are doing, you can change what you are doing and this will shift everything else.

By focusing your attention on other things, you have shifted your anger, frustration, or whatever it is you're feeling, and now you have become aware that it is the most amazingly beautiful day, or that you haven't sung with the radio in a long time, or that it only takes two minuets longer to get to the end of this street if you are driving 20 mph instead of 45 mph, but that 2 minutes really aren't alot on the normal scale of things.

All het up in anger, frustration, screaming - they do nothing, but your consciousness can shift the entire situation. All those negative vibes aren't going to make any difference, and yet your positive vibes will make every difference in the world - to you. You will show up calm, cool, collected, possibly even peaceful and happy, who knows; all because you allowed your consciousness to shift the vibratory frequency of the moment.

That's some powerful stuff.

Blessings.
