I wouldn't think that I can get disgruntled at a mass email, but I can. The thing is, when organizations pushing for change only want me because I add to their number, when they do everything they do without ever once considering the humanity of those very numbers, something is wrong.
Will somebody please notice! If we can't - every one of us - look each other in the eye and see our humanity, for all our differences, we have lost the battle. If we can't show each other some R-E-S-P-E-C-T, damn, what's the point?
There are more important things than numbers. THERE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS THAN NUMBERS. There is duty, there is honor, there is trust, there is the willingness to drop fear. There is beauty, there is goodness, there is compassion, there is service, there is giving of one's self. There are more important things than numbers. Humans, for example, are much, much, more important than numbers.
Healing is more important, taking personal responsibility and making it our own personal responsibility to change the world is more important. There are no modern day saviors. Things are a mess, and guess what? Numbers aren't going to change it, numbers aren't going to make it better. Humans are.
I resent being treated like a number, I hope you do too, because that equation has been proven not to work. Change is not outside of you. Global warming isn't going to stop because of someone else's actions. Corruption isn't going to stop because of someone else's actions. Gluttony and greed are not going to stop because of someone else's actions. They will all be forced out by your actions and mine, by every choice that we make to support them or not to support them.
Every day we have a choice about how to think of ourselves. We can choose to feel powerless, helpless and hopeless, we can just be a lifeless, helpless number. Or we can take responsibility and change the world.
Choose well.
Blessings.
